Why does my dryer run but not heat?

Is a long drying time always an appliance problem?
Not always. A restricted or poorly routed household vent can slow drying and create excess heat. The dryer and the exhaust path both need to be considered.
Can I keep using a noisy dryer?
A new scraping, grinding or heavy thumping sound should be checked. Continuing to run the machine can allow a worn roller, idler, belt or foreign object to cause additional damage.
